From Kibera to the World: The Europe Tour

From Kibera to the World: The Europe Tour

Building connections
From Kibera to the World is a cultural tour where The Legitz will travel across several countries in Europe to screen the documentary Move to Empower, lead hip-hop and dance workshops, take part in performances and community sessions, and connect with artists, organisations, and creative communities.

Through these activities, The Legitz will have the opportunity to represent themselves and their work, share perspectives from Kibera, and engage with new people and creative environments across Europe.

Why are we doing it?
A sustainable dance studio is not just about having a physical space — it is also about the people, opportunities, and networks surrounding it.

The Legitz have built a strong local dance community in Kibera, creating opportunities for children and young people to express themselves, learn, and grow through dance. However, opportunities to build a sustainable career within dance and the arts remain limited.

We believe that building relationships beyond the local community can open new possibilities for The Legitz, while also allowing the people they meet to experience and learn from the creativity, knowledge, and perspectives coming from Kibera.

Purpose
The purpose of From Kibera to the World is to create meaningful cultural exchange between communities in Kenya and Europe through movement, storytelling, and hip-hop culture.

The tour creates spaces where people can meet, exchange knowledge and experiences, learn from one another, and form relationships across different cultures and creative communities.

At the same time, the tour is an important step towards the long-term vision of establishing a permanent dance and community arts studio in Kibera; a space for dance, mentorship, learning, creativity, and artistic development.

Expected impact
Through From Kibera to the World, we hope to build lasting relationships, create new opportunities and international partnerships, and strengthen the network around The Legitz.

We hope the exchange will create value in both directions: giving The Legitz new experiences, knowledge, and relationships to bring back to Kibera, while bringing perspectives and creative practices from Kibera into the communities they meet across Europe.

Ultimately, the tour is about more than travelling from one place to another. It is about building bridges through movement, storytelling, and culture. Bridges that can continue long after the tour ends and lead to future collaborations, cultural exchanges, new opportunities, and a stronger foundation for The Legitz and their vision of a permanent creative space in Kibera.
