Telling their story
Move to Empower is a documentary created together with The Legitz in Kibera, Nairobi. In January 2026, we travelled to Kibera to follow the three brothers behind The Legitz, William, Emmanuel, and Samuel, through their daily lives and the dance community they have built together.
The documentary explores how The Legitz came to be, the work they do with children and young people in Kibera, the challenges they face, and their dreams for the future.
Why are we doing it?
It is easier to connect with a project when you know the people behind it. Before asking people to support the vision of The Legitz, we wanted them to understand who they are, where their work comes from, and why it matters.
Through the documentary, we wanted to create space for The Legitz to tell their own story and bring audiences closer to the people, community, and experiences behind their work.
Purpose
The purpose of Move to Empower is to bring the work and vision of The Legitz beyond Kibera and to a wider audience.
The film explores how creativity, movement, and community can create connection, belonging, and opportunity in environments where young people are often unheard or overlooked. At the same time, the documentary serves as a living archive of youth culture, community strength, and the creative movement The Legitz are building in Kibera.
By sharing their experiences, we also hope to inspire broader conversations around creativity, belonging, and the importance of investing in safe cultural spaces where young people can express themselves, develop their talents, and grow.
Expected impact
We hope Move to Empower can create greater visibility for The Legitz and open doors to new relationships, opportunities, and collaborations.
We hope the film can connect The Legitz with people and organisations who want to become part of what they are building for the future. These connections can take many forms, from financial support and professional collaboration to cultural exchange, shared knowledge, skills, and networks.
In the long term, we hope the documentary can help build a wider network around The Legitz and contribute to the journey towards a permanent and sustainable creative space for children and young people in Kibera.
Have a look from behind the scenes when filming!
